Violetta Valery, a famous Parisian courtesan, toasts the life
of pleasure in "Libiamo." |
Alfredo (Greg Warren) declares his love for Violetta, who laughs
him off. |

After Alfredo leaves the party, Violetta begins to wonder whether
she can take Alfredo's offer of true love seriously in the aria "Ah!
fors'e lui." |
 |

In the aria's cabaletta,
"Sempre libera,"
Violetta decides
to swear off love
and live for pleasure alone. |

In the country, Violetta and Alfredo are happy together until
Alfredo's father, Georgio Germont (Cristian Guajardo),
arrives. |

Germont asks Violetta to leave Alfredo and restore honor to the
family so that his young daughter may get married. He tells her that her
youth and beauty will help her easily find another lover.
In the duet "Dite alla giovine," Violetta decides to
agree to Germont's wishes for the sake of the innocent young girl. She parts
with Germont by telling the father that she is ill, and asking that he tell
Alfredo of her sacrifice after she has died. |
 |

Violetta tells Alfredo she will always love him, and leaves to
return to her former life. |

Confronted after her departure, Violetta begs Alfredo to let
her decision stand without further suffering for them both. |

Dying, Violetta mourns the fact that she may never see Alfredo
again.
He arrives in time however, and the couple sing of their wish
to start a new life outside of Paris before she is overtaken by consumption
and dies. |
